In this article we will analyze the top 5 moments of the first day of the first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Indian Win the Toss and Elected to Bat First
Indian Caption Jasprit Bumrah said- When we were going to bat first, he said that it looks like a good wicket. We are very confident about our preparation. We played a Test match here in 2018 so we know what to expect. Wickets come quickly. Nitish’s debut. We have 4 fast bowlers and Washi is the only spinner.
Australian captain Pat Cummings said during the toss- We were 50-50, either way we are pretty happy. Feel well placed, pretty fresh. Any format we (India-Australia) play seems fiercely fought. Nathan McSweeney makes our debut at the top of the order.
Accourding to Cricbuzz– India’s playing XI- KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Jasprit Bumrah(c), Mohammed Siraj
Australia’s playing XI – Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey(w), Pat Cummins(c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
Debut of Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy
Two young players have made their debut in the playing eleven of the Indian team, the first name is Nitesh Reddy, who is considered to be India’s well-known agile player, the second is fast player Harshit Rana.
Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been given their first Test caps by Ashwin and Virat Kohli respectively.
Harshit is completely new to first-class cricket, he has played just 10 matches. But from all points of view, he has been impressive so far in Australia during the practice sessions.
Virat Kohli out after Scoring 5 runs
Virat Kohli departs for 5 runs in India’s first innings. King was caught by Khawaja off Josh Hazlewood. Kohli was too eager to get forward to every ball, Hazlewood shortened the length, the ball rose sharply and became too big for Kohli to defend. Got the edge around the shoulder of the bat and it went to first slip for a comfortable catch. Could have had a touch in the channel as well. His forward press left him in a poor position for a delivery that was originally short of length. Kohli c Khawaja b Hazlewood 5(12).
Golden duck For Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal
Yashasvi Jaiswal got out on the very first ball of Mitchell Starc’s second over, the ball hit the edge and went straight to gully. Full and was asking for the drive, very slight swing but it had good bounce, the ball took a thick edge as Jaiswal went too hard on the drive and debutant Jaiswal took an easy catch. Tough hands from Jaiswal and he must be cursing himself. Maybe it bounced a bit too much and hit the top of the bat but it looked like a loose shot.
Devdutt gets medically dismissed on the last ball of the 11th over. He edges the ball to the keeper. The struggle is over for DDP. It’s one of those days when you never get going even if you get something for free, unfortunately it happened in his first Test innings in Australia. Good length ball outside off stump, Padikkal tries to defend, the wobble seam ball pulls the ball to the outside and takes the outside edge. Easy catch for Carey who takes the catch to his left.
Fast bowler dominant
India were all out for 150 runs in which the Australian fast bowlers dominated. In this match, four fast bowlers of Australia took 10 wickets. Mitchell Starc got 2 wickets dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, Padikkal, King Kohli, Harshit Rana and Caption Bumrah out by Hazlewood, India Wicketkeepers Pant and Nitish Reddy got out by Austrilian Caption Cummins (c) and Dhruv Jurel and left hand Washington Sundar got out by Mitchell Marsh.
